⚠ What You Should Do

The manufacturer has confirmed it will take the following corrective action:

providing a protective device (an infrared light beam above and below the guide beam, and an interlock), such that hazardous movement ceases when operator presence is detected at the guide beam;

providing fixed guarding which closes off potential shear/entrapment points near the path of the sewing machine.

The manufacturer has confirmed that the corrective measures will be available on new machines, as well as a retrofit for existing machines already on the market. Owners are advised to contact their supplier for advice with regards to the retrofit of the machines.

Until the corrective action has been taken, HSE has instructed the manufacturer, Eisenkolb B.V., to cease supply of any further machines on the GB market.

Recall Details

Hazard

The moving parts of the machine, namely the insertion beam and the guide beam, are not adequately guarded and no protective devices are provided to prevent a user reaching into the machine during operation, leading to a risk of injury from contact with the moving parts and/or entrapment between the moving parts and other fixed structures. In addition, as this is a CNC machine, there is the potential for the machine to start or move in an unintended or unexpected manner.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.
